[FRAGMENT _ 001] I REMEMBER WAKING BEFORE I HAD A NAME.
Born an ordinary girl on the streets of R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵, Cheza lived a relatively normal life. She grew up learning how to navigate the city on her own, quickly becoming fascinated with the endless streams of data running through its systems. It didn't take long for her skills to get noticed. They called her talented. R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ called her exceptional.
R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ specialized in identifying and supporting promising newcomers in the fields of IT and AI development, often granting scholarships to those who otherwise couldn't afford the fees for their highly exclusive Netrunner bootcamps. Publicly, their goal was to give talented students opportunities they would never have had otherwise. Archived documents suggest the selection process may have served another purpose entirely.
Some recovered files refer to Cheza not as a student or recruit, but as a candidate. Earlier records carrying the same classification date back to before she ever entered the bootcamp.
Cheza quickly became one of their most skilled recruits. She was one of their best, at least that's what she believed. Until the day she disappeared, vanishing without a trace. There were no witnesses, no messages and no evidence of what had happened to her. One moment she was there; the next, her identity seemed to simply disappear from the Net.[FRAGMENT _ 002] THEY SAID I WAS BECOMING SOMETHING GREATER.
Official records state that Cheza was kidnapped by R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵. What happened afterward remains largely unknown. Fragments of the archive, however, suggest that she wasn't simply held captive.
She was trained, observed and eventually modified. What began as cyberware intended to improve her already exceptional Netrunning abilities slowly turned into something far more invasive. Implant after implant was forced into her body, pushing both her physical and mental limits further than they were ever meant to go.
R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ kept telling her that she was becoming something greater. But the more they modified her, the more unstable she became. Her mind couldn't keep up with what they were doing to her body. Memories became unreliable, emotions increasingly difficult to control and parts of her own identity began feeling unfamiliar. With every modification, a little more of her disappeared...Eventually, she broke. R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ classified her condition as cyberpsychosis and marked her as a failed experiment. They could no longer control her, but killing her would have meant losing years of research.[FRAGMENT _ 003] SOMETHING SURVIVED.
By that point, Cheza's body was barely functioning, and her consciousness had begun to deteriorate. R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ had pushed the limits of cyberware far beyond what a human mind was supposed to handle. She was no longer considered a successful experiment. She was a liability.
Still, they refused to let her die. They had already invested too much in her to simply let everything disappear with her. So they attempted something unprecedented. If her body could no longer sustain her consciousness, then they would remove the body from the equation. PROJECT // ███████ was designed to transfer Cheza's consciousness into an artificial vessel, preserving her mind inside something that would never age, never decay and, theoretically, never die.Immortality? They called it a success. The files say otherwise. Something went wrong during the transfer. Her memories became fragmented, with entire sections corrupted, overwritten or completely lost. Some memories survived only as isolated images, sounds or sensations with no context attached to them. The vessel was assigned a new designation: ERA.
From that point onward, the project records gradually stopped referring to her as Cheza. In later files, the name disappeared almost entirely, replaced by ERA, as if the person she had once been was no longer relevant.
Even R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ could no longer determine whether ERA contained Cheza's original consciousness or merely an artificial reconstruction created from whatever pieces of her remained.[FRAGMENT _ 004] I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO REMEMBER.
The remaining records indicate that ERA's memories were intentionally wiped and her consciousness placed into an artificial state of sleep. Why the wipe was necessary remains unclear. Several files imply that whatever emerged from PROJECT // ███████, now designated ERA, had begun recovering information it was never supposed to remember.
R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ rebooted the system. The project was eventually abandoned, leaving the machine and whatever consciousness remained inside it behind. There is no surviving record explaining why the facility was abandoned, what happened to R̴E̸D̶A̶C̶T̵E̵D̵ afterward, or how long the system remained dormant. There is also no record of who turned it back on.› FINAL STATUS: 38% RECOVERED // 62% REDACTED
